Highlighting the very basis of General Practice
The main theme of the NCGP2024 is General Practice – the bedrock of healthcare; respecting the core values. Each of our keynote lectures will focus on one of the core values approved by NFGP, together with a summary lecture on the core of family medicine.
We are proudly presenting our outstanding keynote speakers from all Nordic countries and Estonia with deep understanding of the core elements of our discipline.
CORE VALUE 1:
We promote continuity of doctor-patient relationships as a central organising principle.
We are thrilled to hear and invite you to find out WONCA president Anna Stavdal’s thoughts on the continuity of care.
CORE VALUE 2:
We provide timely diagnosis and avoid unnecessary tests and overtreatment. Disease prevention and health promotion are integrated into our daily activities.
How to balance risk and uncertainties in preventing overdiagnosis? GP, assistant professor Hálfdán Petursson will help us to gain more insight on this pressing matter.
CORE VALUE 3:
We prioritise those whose needs for healthcare are greatest.
GP, director of the Global Center for Sustainable Healthcare Minna Johansson speaks about how to prioritise those who need us the most when facing a tsunami of recommendations, quality metrics and financial incentives.
CORE VALUE 4:
We practice person-centred medicine, emphasising dialogue, context, and the best evidence available.
The fourth core value will be discussed by GP Tuire Saloranta. Come to hear her ideas if person-centered care is a key for effectivity!
CORE VALUE 5:
We remain committed to education, research, and quality development.
In her lecture, professor Ruth Kalda will focus on dialogue, context, and best evidence in person-centered medicine.
CORE VALUE 6:
We recognise that social strain, deprivation, and traumatic experiences increase people’s susceptibility to disease, and we speak out on relevant issues.
Are there some hidden hierarchies, and how are those related to the quality of life? Tenured professor in social and health policy Juho Saari will walk us through the sixth core value.
CORE VALUE 7:
We collaborate across professions and disciplines while also taking care not to blur the lines of responsibility.
GP, professor Mogens Vestergaard will tell us how to secure sustainable services, taking future challenges and core values into account.
SUMMARY LECTURE ON THE CORE OF FAMILY MEDICINE:
The President of Swedish College of General Practice, Magnus Isacson will conclude on these values in his summary lecture about the core of Family Medicine.

Call for abstracts, symposiums, and workshops are open. Deadline for symposium and workshop proposals is 30 November 2023, and abstract submission 15 January 2024.
